Stenciled Neon Paste Cards

I know it has been out for a bit, but I just recently finally got the Simon Hurley Neon Paste, and had to play with it and try it out. I have some of the Solar and Lunar pastes, and love the texture and consistency, and these colors are so bright! I did some tests with some color blends, and these are the first cards I made with some of those.

I had an idea to make two panels and trim them down to make a pop-out gatefold card, but liked the way the panels came out and decided to keep them whole and use them for a pair of birthday cards. The neon colors really are bright and bold against the deep colored card base.

  • I used a cover piercing die on two A2 Peacock (teal) card panels. The Big & Bold die I used was exclusive to a Concord & 9th event, but you could create the same effect with another cover die that just pierces the paper, embossing with some flower dies, or even a subtle background stamp with watermark or tone-on-tone ink

  • I wanted to try blending the Solar Paste colors through I stencil, so I put a dab of three colors in rainbow order at the top of the stencil (from Gina K), and used the spreader tool to pull it through the stencil until it had filled in the open parts of the stencil. I highly recommend a wider tool like the spreader in the supply list below if you want a smooth color blend that covers a wider area, like this does.

  • The two backgrounds are pretty identical, except for the different color range of Solar Paste I used. (I was playing with the blends since these were new and wanted to see how that worked out.)

  • On one background I did a little bit of ink blending in the deeper Rainforest ink around the top, bottom and right edges to add depth. This helps the added sentiment stand out on the front

  • Solar Paste: Tangent, Hot Mess, Mood Ring, No Chill, Dart Frog

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Peacock, as well as white*

  • ink: Concord & 9th Rainforest

Simon just came out with the next series of pastes - Astro Pastes - that have glitter. I’m going to have to get some of those to try out also. Have you tried them yet?

Thank you for visiting! I hope you get some time to create something soon.
