Stencils + Pastes for Autumn

This card features the Stromanthe Stencil Set, which is part of the Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember release.

The layers make it easy to create the leaf with different shades or colors, and I wanted to try one done all in colors of Lunar Paste.

Techniques:

  • I based this whole card on warm autumn colors. For a subtle pattern behind the leaf, I stamped the Topography background cling stamp in Versamark ink, so it had a the tone on tone feel. I think the organic pattern and curves of the stamp relate well to the leaf, but because it is a thin line and I did it in low contrast color, the two elements have enough balance that they aren’t fighting for attention. The leaf is definitely a stronger focal point than the pattern.

  • In order to use this stencil as an autumn leaf (and not something tropical), I chose a trio of warm colors. The Lunar Pastes have a bit of subtle shimmer to them which really has such good fall mood, especially when done in these colors.

  • I chose a bold greeting to contrast with the organic shapes. The black base gives it a good foundation so it doesn’t get lost in all the color and pattern, while the gold embossing ties it in well with the shimmer of the paste and the warm feel so it fits in well.

  • The Wildberry background cardstock didn’t have as much contrast as I wanted, so I added ink blending to the two exposed sides using Cranberry ink and the inks left on my deeper blue ink brush.

  • Gold splatter on the leaves added a great detail and energy with the sparkle and movement it brings to the card.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Wildberry, Cayenne, and Black.

  • ink: Concord & 9th Cranberry. Versafine Embossing Ink.
