Burst of Cheer

Guest Designing for the December 2024 release from Concord & 9th

This Burst of Cheer bundle has great elements for celebrations. You can make flat cards or tags with these, or combine them with the Pop Up Burst Base Dies for something really fun.

Techniques:

  • This version goes all in with the dimension, thanks to the Pop-Up Burst Die Set. The card has a band that goes around the outside and slides off (or unhooks) to reveal the pop-up inside.

  • Cutting the pop-up base from the same cardstock as the card background (Powder, in the case) helps it to be less obvious. I wanted to keep the focus on the other graphics for this card.

  • For the burst portion of the letters, I chose a palette of warm colors, and used them roughly in rainbow order. I liked the idea of the bright white letters with those colors, but in order for them to have a little more contrast with the light blue background, I layered them on a “shadow” letter cut from Mushroom cardstock.

  • Even though the real excitement of this card is inside, I made sure the front of the card was also fun, whether the band is on or not.

  • I used some of the same colors from inside, as well as the glitter cardstock for the stars. They contrast nicely against the Mushroom cardstock background that I added texture to with the cloudy double card front die.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Dragonfruit, Sweet Pea, Poppy, Sorbet, Clementine, Creamsicle, Blueberry, Powder, Dove, and Glitter White. Neenah Solar White.

Techniques:

  • This card was inspired by the letter bursts. As I was cutting the colors for the card above, I noticed the fun shapes, and that the “O” die didn’t even necessarily look like it has to be a letter. (I have other ideas for this one also… stay tuned.)

  • Since I’d done the other card with warm colors, I chose a cool palette for this one, just for variety. I pulled some pairs of colors, and cut them all out with he two “O” dies. (I probably should have used a larger card size so they had more room, but than can be for the next one.

  • I finished off the card with a cluster of flowers from the Burst of Blooms dies, and a stamp from the Burst of Blooms stamp set.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Parsley, Clover, Juniper, Oceanside, Peacock, Blueberry, Harbor, Powder, Lilac, Grape Soda, and Kraft. Neenah Solar White.
