Petite Frames
Guest Designing for the December 2024 release from Concord & 9th
Well, this is the final day and post for the inspiration week for this December 2024 release. I loved being able to be part of it, and also loved seeing the inspiration from the other two designers for this week.
Today we are showcasing the Petite Frames bundle.
Techniques:
This card is a twist on a gallery wall.
I created a base layer using an embossing folder. I lightly swiped a gold metallic ink pad across the raised areas for some highlight and finishing details, then trimmed it down and and layered it on a card base of the same Peacock cardstock color.
One of the best things about the coordinating stamp set in this bundle is that it has sentiments that fit perfectly in the frames. I chose a couple that paired well and stamped them on white - which provides the most contrast on the card.
A third frame with flower die cuts on a darker background completes the gallery group of three that I have as the main focal point of the card. A few other die cut flowers from the bundle mix in to create some connection and play between the frames and background.
All three frames I used here are built up with a layer of thick black cardstock between the front color and the background “artwork” to create some nice dimension. Doing it in black adds to that sense of depth.
Colors:
cardstock: Concord & 9th Watermelon, Clementine, Cayenne, Artichoke, and Peacock. Hero Arts Pitch Black. Neenah Solar White.
Techniques:
I really enjoy creating cards that have some interaction and connection from the front to the inside, and thought these frames would be really fun to use as a window. I chose the oval, and found an oval die from my collection that would work to cut a layer in the card base to put the frame over.
To create a finished look, add a little detail, I layered a scalloped frame die cut on both the front and inside of the window. It also hides the fact that the oval die I used to cut the window wasn’t perfectly proportioned and sized to the frame.
I created a “picture rail” that visually grounds the “thanks” letters from the Floral Burst die set. I was originally going to line them up, but giving them the little baseline shift like this both created some fun energy and interest, and allowed them to fit closer together and better within the width of the card.
A few stems of flowers from both die sets create a flow though the layout, and some interplay between the front and inside of the card. By creating them in subtle shades of blues that are similar in value to the yellow I used, it maintains a visual balance and keeps them secondary to the main focus of the greeting and the frame that are higher contrast in the bright white.
