Birthday Sparkle

I needed a birthday card for a long-time friend who loves purple, and also had some Gina K Poly-Glaze foiling sheets I wanted to use. I knew my friend would love the sparkle – and she got plenty of it!

I started out by ink blending over the Poly-Glaze sheet. I used just one color, and varied the pressure and amount of ink to get the gradation I wanted.

Once that was done, I applied the foil and put it through my Minc machine, and wow! The shine and sparkle of the Sparkling Silver Fancy Foil is amazing! (Of course, I saved the negative of the foil for a future project.)

My original plan was to add more layers with a cake and flowers on the background, but once it was foiled I decided not to cover it up too much. I wanted to just let it shine - literally.

I switched gears and decided to create a shaker card in the cake shape instead. I used some layer cake dies from Concord & 9th and cut them out of the foiled panel.

I looked through my leftover packaging from other products and found one that was the perfect size for the die cut opening. After filling it with a mix of embellishments, I sealed it up, lined the back of the panel opening with some double sided adhesive tape, and attached the shaker pocket to the panel. I backed the whole panel with double sided foam tape - except behind the shaker opening - and applied that front panel to a folded card base.

I used some of other dies from the Concord & 9th cake die set to cut out the frosting swirls and candles. Those were added to the front of the panel with Connect glue.

The greeting is another Poly-glaze element. I loved how easy it was to die cut the one I wanted from the sheet, ink blend on it, and foil it to get just what I wanted in just a few minutes. To add some interest, I used the same die cut to cut a few from the Grape Soda cardstock and glued those behind the foiled one for dimension.

Thank you for visiting! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Have you tried the Gina K Poly-glaze foiling sheets yet? Which design is your favorite? I’ll definitely be using more of these. They are such an easy way to add foil, and the ink blended on them beautifully!
