Sweet Treats
I created this card with Valentine’s Day in mind, but it could really be used throughout the year, and would be perfect for birthdays, as well as other occasions like Mother’s Day.
Techniques:
Do you have a cute stamp set but not the dies, and aren’t in the mood to fussy cut? Using basic shape dies you have on hand is a great solution. For this card, I stamped the main images on the inside, but then used small circle dies to cut holes in the front panel so they’d show through.
Those treats inside are all stamped in black, and then I used the coordinating stencils to color them in.
Touches of Glossy Accents add a finishing shine on each of the three treats. I used it on the sprinkles and the frosting drizzle.
The front panel is faced with three pinks, cut with a decorative-edge die. I thought it continued the fun theme of the cupcake wrapper and frosting swirl of the treats.
I felt the front was a little plain, even with those fun edges, so I used a few of the stencils from the Outline Hearts stencil set to ink blend some hearts. I did them in coordinating colors to the cardstock stripes, for a tone-on-tone effect.
The sentiment on the front is stamped and embossed in white. It plays a few roles in this card design:
It serves as a grounding anchor to the three peek-a-boo circles.
It continues the high gloss detail of the Glossy Accents on the treats - but on the front of the card, which adds continuity to the design.
It adds a top dimension to the card, so this one has and interactive feel and three layers! (But it will still mail easily in a standard envelope.)
Colors:
cardstock: Concord & 9th Sweet Pea, Pink Lemonade, and Watermelon. Hammermill White.
Techniques:
I started by creating a background with the Outline Hearts stencils and a few colors of ink.
At the bottom of that background, I stamped a row of the “xoxo” from the stamp set.
The heart cake pops were colored with the stencils and ink blending, and cut with the coordinating die.
I wanted to bundle them with a big bow, so pulled this one from a recent set. I wanted it to stand out with the bold and bright color, but wanted to leave the focus and detail to the cake pops, so I stamped the bow in the same color pink as the cardstock. The dye ink multiplies the color on the cardstock so it is visible, but not high contrast.
To create dimension, I used foam squares behind the cake pop tops, and parts of the bow.
Colors:
cardstock: Concord & 9th Sweet Pea, Powder. Neenah White.
ink: Concord & 9th Dragonfruit, Sweet Pea, Pink Lemonade, Aqua Sky, Harbor, Nutmeg.
This card features the sweet heart-shaped box of chocolates. I stamped it on deep red cardstock, emobossed it with gold embossing powder, and die cut it.
The background panel is Pebble (a light warm gray) cardstock that I embossed with the Pinnacle Hearts embossing folder.
I trimmed down the embossed panel so the A2 card would have a wide white mat. I paid attention as I trimmed to be sure that the pattern remained centered within the panel.
The heart and sentiment are both added with foam tape to provide some extra dimension on top of the embossed panel.
Colors:
cardstock: Concord & 9th Cranberry and Pebble. Neenah White.
ink: Versafine Onyx Black. Versamark.
