Color and Die Cut Patterns – with the New Petal Builder Dies

Time for a new release from Simon Says Stamp!

The new release from Simon Says Stamp is HERE! Introducing the FAVORITE THINGS release! This release includes a lot of fun for Easter, for spring, and some really good basics also.

This simple Petal Builder die set was one of the first things that caught my eye from this release. I knew it would be fun for creating shapes and patterns, and over the next couple of weeks you’ll see more of those ideas here.

Techniques:

  • I chose a green and pink color scheme for this card, so I cut the smaller Petal Builder Segments out of three shades of green, and a pink as an accent.

  • The base die from the Petal Builder set I cut out of white, so the brightness of the colors would really stand out. I offset the petals on the base as I glued it together, so it has a highlight effect.

  • A background with some texture and smaller scale pattern from the Gradient Dots embossing folder provides nice balance to the bold focal point shapes. Using soft pink cardstock for it continues the color family groupings that I started on the focal point.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Sweet Pea, Ballet Slipper, Parsley, Evergreen, and Clover. Neenah White.

Techniques:

  • I always appreciate the look of color groupings against dark backgrounds. Especially with gorgeous color like these cardstocks!

  • The fact that this die set comes with three of these crescent shaped dies makes this actually a quick and easy card to make! I was able to cut three colors of cardstock at once that way.

  • Placing the rows of color at an angle adds a dynamic energy to the layout, more so than if I’d done it exactly vertical or horizontal. This also worked out to be jus the right distance to allow me the length I needed for the color groups I’d chosen.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Wildberry, Dragonfruit, Sweet Pea, Watermelon, Honeysuckle, Sorbet, Grapefruit, Creamsicle, Clementine, Spiced Cider, Sunflower, Lemongrass, Parsley, Clover, Juniper, Mushroom. Hero Arts Pitch Black
