Letting White Die Cuts Shine
This card uses some of the new colors and new products from Concord & 9th’s February release.
My initial thought was to use the Primrose Garden dies to cut out the flowers and leaves from colored cardstock, which is what I usually do, but what if I cut them all out of white and use the color for the background instead?
I cut out flowers and leaves a few times from white, so I had a selection to play with. Next, I cut some stripes of colored cardstock. The Watermelon, Creamsicle, and Eucalyptus stripes are 1-1/2”, and the Grapefruit and Sea Glass stripes are 3/8”. (Varying them adds a some interest, and lets the new colors be more of the focus, without looking disorganized or distracting.) I trimmed out the background panel so the edges were all clean and straight.
Once I started arranging the flowers on that striped panel, I realized it seemed a little too plain, so I chose to use the pierced background die that comes in the set on that striped background - which was just the amount of interest and texture it needed. (A background stamp with Versamark ink or clear embossing powder would also have been good options, but I like that this added texture and pattern while maintaining the matte finish of the cardstock. (See the comparison of that before and after right below.)
I arranged and layered the flowers along the side until I found a pattern I was happy with, and then glued them on with a combination of Connect Glue and foam squares. I decided to just leave all the petals that hang over the edge instead of trimming them off, and will use one of my card mailer envelopes that is larger than A2 to send it.
With that all assembled, I then cut the included banner pieces out of Mushroom cardstock, stamped and embossed the greeting on it, and added that to the card. I then decided it might have been good to use shimmer spray on some of the white flower pieces for that subtle sparkle, but didn’t want to spray the whole card (or take the time to mask everything) so I used a Wink of Stella pen on some of the parts. (It doesn’t really show in the photos, but does in person.) A sprinkling of clear dew drops provided the finishing touch.
