Knit Hugs

These cards use the new Knit With Love stencils from Kristina Werner Design.
Take a look at her whole release at Concord & 9th
here.

Techniques:

  • I wanted to use this stencil in cozy blues., and I thought that tilting it at an angle added a little extra interest. Tip: To be sure I got the second layer lined up at the same angle, I used a marker to mark the corners on the grip mat I used. (They clean right off when I clean off the ink.)

  • I started with Blueberry ink on the Blueberry cardstock for the background layer. It creates such a nice texture feel - without any texture.

  • The heart & stripe stencil I did first with white pigment ink. I applied it first with blending and then with daubing because I felt that gave me the best coverage. Once it was finished I heat set to be sure it was dry.

  • I placed that heart stencil back in place over the white, but this time I blending some Lemongrass and Tidepool inks over the top of the white. The white ink forms a foundation so these lighter colors show up - even though it is all on the deeper blue cardstock.

  • For one last touch, and to add some actual texture to the knit pattern, I ran the card panel through my die cut machine to emboss it with the heart stencil in place, so the knit pattern of the heart and stripe are raised with a subtle (but definitely there) texture.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Blueberry & Midnight.

  • ink: Concord & 9th Lemongrass, Tidepool, Blueberry, White.
