Feline Flowers

I couldn’t decide if I was going to use flowers or cats on a birthday card for a friend… so I just used both! This card combines a few products from Kristina Werner Design and Concord & 9th.

Techniques:

  • Guess what I discovered? The curled up cats fit perfectly in the die cut flowers! Of course, I took advantage of that and added a couple to the card.

  • There is a little bit of ink blending on some of the flower elements, but because there is a lot on this card, I chose to keep the blooms mostly solid. The dies do add some nice line word details in the petals.

  • I used the embossing folder to add texture to the card base. Cutting it out with a cover die from Kristina’s Essentials Dies gave it a decorative edge that stylistically coordinates with the other elements.

  • I stamped the letters for HAPPY in multiple layers, creating a blend of my color palette. I did this by inking a section, using a blending brush to soften the edge, and repeating with the next color and adding layers until the blend was smooth. Blending the edges is important if you want a smooth transition, though sometimes I like the more textured edge of not doing so, so it is totally up to the look you want.

  • The “purrthday” pun stamp was the perfect touch to complete the greeting. Of course, I had to try it out in multiple colors to decide what I wanted. But now I have some ready for other cards.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Carnation, Briar Rose, Nectar, Creamsicle, Lilac, Gold Metallic.

  • ink: Concord & 9th Carnation, Briar Rose, Creamsicle.
