Four backgrounds! Card 1

In the process of making the background for this card, I ended up with parts for three others! I’m adding in the first one today, and will be sharing the others soon. It was easy to have so many ready to go, just by mixing the colors.

This card began with a color scheme, and an older and newer background die, all from Concord & 9th. I was expecting to take the design in a different direction, but as it often does, the flow of the process took it in a slightly different direction.

I started with A2 size pieces of the four cardstock colors (see below for details) and used the Basketweave card front die on them, followed by the Modern Mosaic. All those parts gave me plenty to choose from to assemble together like a puzzle to get a subtle hint of a sunset, while still leaving room for the cake.

I wanted the cake to be white, but it seemed to stark with the background, so I used a polka-dot die on the layers, along with a bit of ink blending along the edges. Once decorated with some sprinkles and frosting loops, and fun sparkler candles, it was ready for the card. I did layer some cardstock behind it for just a bit of dimension. At this point I knew I needed something to ground the cake, and the card, so a bit of black was that missing piece.

I added a couple of layers to the Sorbet section of the background, with a greeting stamped on the top, and then sprinkled on a few dew drops.

After putting this together, I still had enough for 3 more backgrounds! Stay tuned for those…
