Everyday Christmas

I love the book-themed True Story bundle from Concord & 9th, and the creativity of the On Display bundle. Since decorating and holiday prep are top of mind, I thought it would be fun to turn these sets into holiday scenes.

Anything that extends the use of the products we invest in feels smart, and – even better – is a fun creative challenge.

Techniques:

  • I pulled out some other die sets to mix in with the On Display bundle, looking for things that had some similarly styled holiday theme shapes, and were a reasonable scale to mix in.

  • With four cubbies in the display shelf, I made sure to add at least one holiday element to each, as well as on the top.

  • I made the shelving black so that the holiday colors would stand out nicely. (The black also happens to match a lot of what is in our home.)

  • The snowman die I found was a little too large, but I was able to use him anyway by simply cutting off the lower of the 3 snowballs he is made out of.

  • The books seemed too simple, but were small to embellish, so I just added a little bit of wording on the spines with a fine marker.

  • What didn’t work? I had cut out a nutcracker and was going to place him on the top. I realized the scale was off though, and I didn’t think of a good way to cut it down like I did the snowman. (But wait… I’ve thought of a way to do that now, so maybe it will show up somewhere soon…)

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Cranberry, Poppy, Lemongrass, Avocado, Artichoke, Rainforest, Blueberry, Mushroom, Dove, Nutmeg, Black, White Glitter. Spellbinders Brushed Gold. Bazzill Matte Silver.

  • ink: green blending brush.

Techniques:

  • Unlike my more recent previous book card with the True Story Bundle, this is a pretty straightforward use of the book dies. I chose 4 colors, 4 of the book dies, and lined them up in an almost-rainbow order.

  • I pulled stamps and dies from other holiday sets to use to decorate the books, and mixed those in with some of the pieces that are part of the True Story bundle to make them all Christmas books.

  • For consistency, each book has die cut details applied, and I chose those from mostly the same color palette as the books, with the addition of gold.

Thank you for visiting! I hope you get some time to create something soon.
