Alternate Designs with Concord & 9th “On My Mind”

Do you like to follow the example designs for new product sets, or do you usually go rogue and come up with something different? I’m often inspired by examples, but prefer to see what else I can come up with and find a different design or layout for it. (That’s where I find the bonus fun and challenge beyond the process of creating itself.)

Today I have two cards using product from the recent Crop & Create Delivered Cardmaking virtual event from Scrapbook & Cards Today. (More on that to come soon.)

I made three cards in the class, with just minor variation. (Sometimes that feels like the right thing to do when I attend an event or class, though I usually mix it up a little. These two are the first of other ideas I had for the products.

Card 1:

As much as these little pots and vases are adorable when they’re lined up, who says they have to be? (That’s a great thing about art - there are few rules of reality.) This one uses softer colors, and simple techniques (with just a little bit of shading and dimension) because there is enough action in the layout. The smaller sentiment (stamped in Lilac on the white) is from the Concord & 9th 2023 Summer Camp event.

Card 2:

I had the pieces for this one laid out on my craft mat during the last afternoon of the event, but knew it needed a little something so I hadn’t glued anything down yet. I owe the brilliant Jennifer McGuire for the pop-up inspiration. I think that was just what I needed to finish this one off. I always prefer cards that include a little something extra over a basic flat fold anyway. For the background panel, I used just a small masked-off section of an included stencil and repeated it so the linear repetition reflected the row of rainbow pots on the shelf in the foreground.
Yes, I did use the same primary sentiment on both of these because a good pun always wins.

Thanks for taking a look!
I highly recommend you check out both the Concord & 9th and Scrapbook & Cards Today websites and social to keep an eye out for their future events. (I think there will be news from both coming up in the next month or so.) They are a lot of fun, and always push me to try a product or technique that I might not have otherwise.
