Zest Birthday
For a birthday card for a friend, Concord & 9th’s Citrus-themed products and some warm, cheerful colors mixed for a perfect combination.
This card uses some products from the Concord & 9th May release. I used both the Citrus Twist Turnabout and the Citrus Crush (stamps and die sets) on this card.
These citrus fruits make me happy - something about the shapes and geometry of them, and they have such a fun feel. Which all seemed perfect for spreading some birthday joy.
I started by stamping a background panel the first two rotations of the Turnabout stamp with Versamark ink. Adding white embossing powder to that allowed me to preserve the white color of the cardstock when I ink blended over it (once it was fully cool) in Clementine, Watermelon, and Pink Lemonade inks.
Next, I die cut a variety of lemons and citrus slices. I used the full lemon-shaped fruit in both sizes, as well as whole and half slices (also in both sizes). I cut them out of a few more colors, but ended up using the ones cut from Buttercup, Pink Lemonade, Watermelon (all from Concord & 9th) and Canary from Hero Arts.
I decided that a window to the greeting would be more fun than just having it on the front, so I cut a window from the background. Once it was cut, I arranged some parts on it, with the stamp set behind the window to figure out my general arrangement before I started gluing things down.
I used the die cut card panel to position the circle die on my card base and cut that, then glue the front panel to the base. The stamping inside is in Tidepool ink, and then I started adding all of my pieces to the front with Gina K Connect glue. Once I had done that, I decided that some shimmer would be fun so I gave the front a spritz of the spray (find it in the links) with the card opened flat so I wouldn’t spray the inside.
For the final touch, I brought some of the elements from the front of the card into the inside. That helps connect the two views together visually. I like to have it be related, but not identical inside, because that keeps it interesting and engaging for the recipient. It seems a lot more special, which is how we want someone to feel when we give them a card, right?
