Welcome! You’ve found another stop on the Sweet Wishes Blog Hop celebrating the October release from Simon Says Stamp. (See the whole release here.) I’m glad you stopped by.

Be sure to read to the end to see the special offer!

I first used the Holiday Greenery die to make a traditional arrangement of greens. This card evolved when I wanted to try other ways to use the pieces in a less-expected way.

Techniques:

  • This card features modern design using greenery elements. The layout is pretty symmetrical, but the use of different colors for the greenery adds interest.

  • After embossing the gray cardstock panel, I blended ink around the edges (in the same color) to add some depth to that base before I added the foliage. The regular pattern of the debossed stripes is a good foundation for the more organic foliage.

  • I used the main foliage pieces as is, in three colors of cardstock. I added a smaller leaf of each color, but in the opposite position. This balances the colors used, so it maintains that symmetrical feel even with the different hues. I glued down the centers of the foliage pieces, but left some of the tips unattached to provide some dimensional interest.

  • The greeting is from the new Winter Sentiment Strips. It is hard to tell in the photos, but I foiled the words using some Teal Therm-o-web foil and my new Fuse machine. I also gave it a bit of depth in the center by placing foam squares behind it. (The left and right sides are glued down, which provides an appearance of being curved, but still be easy to mail.

  • Adding some of the Pawsitively Dazzling Gems both adds to the flow, which helps lead your eye through the layout, and also provides a nice detail layer, and the contrast of the smooth, shiny gems on the softer cardstock layers.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Cranberry, Sea Glass, Oceanside, Mushroom.

  • ink: Concord & 9th Mushroom.
