Sand Dollar Hello - Sunny Vibes Release from Simon Says Stamp
I couldn’t resist the Sand Dollar dies from Simon Says Stamp’s new Sunny Vibes release. (You can see it all here.) They actually have two sizes as part of the release. This card showcases the Large Sand Dollar.
I have fond memories of finding sand dollars at the beach growing up, and the thrill I felt on the rare occasion when we’d find a whole one. So, of course, I had to make a card with the new die.
Techniques:
I created that streaked effect on the background by swiping the ink across the stamp rather than inking it like I normally would. I used two ink colors to do it: Simon Says Stamp’s Marine at the top, and Cadette on the lower half. That effect reminded me of the windswept sand at the beach.
I used the two white sand dollars with the inlay pieces still in them. For the kraft colored one I poked those out, but backed it with another piece of kraft cardstock. I wanted to experiment with the effect of doing it each way. Using one sand dollar of the three in a slightly different way adds a subtle layer of interest and variation in texture to the card.
After adding the sand dollars and banner greeting to the card I felt it needed something extra, so added the “swipes” of “sand" with Distress texture paste topped with a mix of Sand embossing powder and Distress Glitter (in Antique Linen).
Colors:
cardstock: Concord & 9th Blueberry and Kraft, Neenah White.
ink colors: Marine & Cadette (from Simon Says Stamp)
