Birthday Blooms
Here’s a card that shows off the Exotic Blooms dies, from the Simon Says Stamp TO LOVE release! (See the whole release here.) You’ll also find a little bit of color theory explanation in with the techniques.
Techniques:
This card really shows off a lot of texture and linework in the detailed flowers, and I complemented that with an embossing folder that has some of the smilarly deco-inspired style.
Doing the blooms in an analogous color palette (colors near each other on the color wheel) allowed me to give them variation in color while still seeming cohesive enough that they could have come from the same plant and belong together.
Placing these warm orange blooms on a teal background really allows them to pop off because I based the combination on complementary colors. (Opposite each other on the color wheel.) Complementary colors add a visual energy to the design.
I chose a warm gold embossing powder for the greeting for that same complementary color effect, and the navy (Midnight) cardstock grounds the greeting nicely on the layout.
Colors:
cardstock: Concord & 9th Sorbet, Grapefruit, Nectar, Creamsicle, Clementine, Spiced Cider, Peacock, Midnight
.ink: Concord & 9th Watermelon, Creamsicle, Avocado, Blueberry.
