I was recently away on a crafty weekend with some friends and got to try out some new products from Simon Says Stamp’s Splendor release. This card combines a few of those products.

When I die cut these pieces, I wasn’t sure how I was going to use them, so it was a good challenge to have the parts ready and to work with the colors I’d cut them in. The flowers tuck nicely in among the shape of the Mandala die, so those were a fun combination. My mandala die cut was white though, and I wanted something a little more from it. With flowers in purples, going to a complementary color (from the color wheel) is sure to add some depth and energy, so I sprayed my white die cut with a Dylusions Shimmer Spray so it has a lovely golden yellow color. The great shimmer adds another layer of interest tot he detailed but matte flowers.

For a soft, but not plain background, I ink blended with three soft colors on a white cardstock panel. It needed a little more, so I ran that blended panel through an embossing folder. I pounced some white pigment ink on the embossed surface (the peaks) of it, and glued on the mandala now that it was dry from the spray.

I arranged the flowers and tucked them in behind the mandala with a combination of Connect Glue and small foam squares. I just added foam to one of the four leaves on the larger flowers (as opposed to all four), for a more natural effect.

I stamped the greeting in black on white cardstock for contrast with all the softer colors, die cut it, and attached it with foam. The finishing touch was a selection of enamel dots in white, and pearls in metallic yellow sprinkled throughout.
