Splendid Little Birds

Simon Says Stamp has a brand new release! Be Bold is available now for shopping, and has a really good mix of product! Lots of spring, some good birthday greetings (which we always can use more of) and some dies for some Tim Holtz stamp sets, new colors, and always more.

This card - and a couple more coming in the next few days - features one of the stamp sets, combined with some other products from recent releases.

This card started with an idea to use this great bird die, and a background that I’d already made! I made it for a different card, and decided it wasn’t right. I think it was perfect for this one.

This card started with an idea to use this great bird die, and a background that I’d already made! I made it for a different card, and decided it wasn’t right. I think it was perfect for this one.

The card front was made with the Simon Says Stamp Spun Glass embossing folder on Concord & 9th Peacock cardstock. I added some gold metallic splatter to it, and then wondered how it would look if I used my splatter brush to brush the leftover gold on. (So that’s the striped area you see at the top of the panel.) I mounted that on a Rainforest cardstock panel. It is a touch deeper in color than the Peacock, so that adds some additional depth that enhances the textured panel.

This bird die is great because it is all in one. One die for the three pieces that build the bird - so no little bits to keep track of! I used Stardust and Tidepool for the two birds. I decided I wanted the birds to face each other, so the yellow one is actually the back side of the die cut for the body and legs. I burnished the body with my bone folder to smooth down some of the rough edges (my cutting plate is about ready to be replaced), and I did use the wing right side up, just positioned differently to look like that one is more ready to take flight to see the other. Some ink blending using the same colors as the cardstock was a great way to add shadow for depth.

I stamped the words from the Splendid Sentiments with Versamark ink on black cardstock, embossed it in gold, and trimmed it down by hand. (There are dies available, I just didn’t have them yet when this card needed to be created.) Little black enamel dots were just the right size to give these little birds eyes and bring the to life.

Thank you for visiting! I hope you get some time to create something soon.
