Taking a card beyond: Concord & 9th Snowy Scene

I enjoy the Concord & 9th classes. I love their products, and enjoy the connection chatting with friends and others who are teaching or also taking them. I may not be the best student though, because though I sometimes follow along, I often go off on my own tangent as well. I like to ask myself, “What else can I do with this?” and enjoy putting product to work beyond the basics.

Here’s an example from the 2023 In The Classroom” Holiday Edition event. The two cards with the greens are from one of the classes for that event, and the bottom one is one I did after it.

I love cards that have an extra layer of interactivity or visual interest. Something that you don’t see when you just see the card front, or something that creates more of an experience. (My brain tends to think about experiences more than average because that’s been part of my work, and has always been an interest of mine.)

I chose to build the scene on the inside, and frame it with a “window” from the front. Bringing some of the elements of the scene to the front connects the two even more - a more expansive starry sky, and a tree-lined snowy path that leads you to the scene and the primary greeting.

Inside, I built a few snowy layers for some rolling hills, in white and Powder cardstock. (The white layers don’t show up as well in the photos, but they do in person. There’s one at the base of the house and one behind it.) I used different sizes of trees with the larger ones closer to the house and the smaller ones farther back (up) for perceived perspective.

A few extra touches like metallic gold “balls” (Nuvo drops) on the wreath on the front door, and some Distress Snowfall Grit Paste on the roofline and larger trees for “snow” add more interest inside.

That sentiment stamp inside is a straight one, but I curved it as I placed it in my MISTI so that it repeats some of the curves in the snowy hills above. An easy way to get a little extra mileage from those.

Most of the products used on this card are event exclusives, so I won’t be listing them all below. Feel free to reach out if you have specific questions though! I will encourage you to check out their future events though. They have had about three per year in recent years - two one-day In The Classroom (ITC) events and a weekend Summer Camp. Signup for their spring ITC event are open now if you see this by 1/8/2024, so I encourage you to check it out on their Events page. They are a lot of fun, the classes are good, they have some purchasing options, and always have some creative products exclusive to the event.

Thank you for visiting! I hope you get some time to create something soon.
