Snowflakes and Shimmer

These cards highlight another die from the Simon Says Stamp DieCember® release. (See the whole release here.)

Techniques:

  • This snowflake die is big and beautiful! I love the curved tips it has. I cut it out of holographic cardstock to add some great shimmer and shine.

  • But, this die is special in that it doesn’t only cut out an outline shape. It also adds little pinhole perforation details around the die, so I also used the die on blue cardstock, but didn’t use quite the regular pressure so it stayed in the paper. I got to keep all that great detail.

  • I glued the holographic snowflake on top of the blue base one - but at a slight angle so that the arms (what I think of as spokes) are offset from each other and all show.

  • For some additional frosty detail, I used the Snowflake Swirl wafer die to cut a few from a darker blue cardstock, and placed them around the edges of the card panel.

  • As a finishing touch, I added some of the frosty pearl colored gems from the Pawsitively Dazzling Gems - Metallic Tones set. These really tie the two snowflakes together and add extra sparkle.

Techniques:

  • The other fun thing to do with a great snowflake die like this is to turn it into a shaker.

  • I started by ink blending a lilac front panel with a bolder and brighter purple ink from the bottom up. Next, I added some Distress Spritz and Distress Mica Stain to add more frostiness. Once that was dry, I cut out the snowflake.

  • I filled the shaker with clear and iridescent sparkly things, so it would be reminiscent of snow crystals.

  • For the sentiment, I foiled one of the Winter Sentiment Strips, and added ink blending to it to coordinate with the colors on the card. I love those strips for an easy finishing touch.
