Sketched Leaves - Two Ways

The October release from Simon Says Stamp is now available! See the whole release here. I’ll be sharing some cards with it over the next few weeks.

Techniques:

  • This card features a print made of the leaf stamps - by using stamping foam (from Simon Hurley).

    • I arranged the stamps the way I wanted them - using the top of my MISTI as my work surface. (Sorry that it is hard to see. I was doing without thinking ahead to how it would photograph.)

    • After heating the stamping foam, I pressed it on those stamps to create the impression, and then let it cool.

    • Next, I inked the foam with the impression with a series of yellow, orange, and red inks. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but lightly rub them across or tap them on the raised areas. This will create the color. For this example, I did it in a gradient from yellow to red colors.

    • Giving the inked stamping foam a few spritzes of water activated that ink (fine mist is best, not big droplets). Then I pressed it firmly onto my cardstock. I held it in place for a few seconds to be sure the ink had a chance to transfer. If you want more softness or movement from the ink colors, you can spritz the print on the paper as well. (I recommend doing a little bit at a time and letting it dry so it doesn’t get too runny, or you might lose the details.) If you look closely, you’ll see that I did a couple of sprays with bigger drops rather than a mist. I like the variation that gives the print.

  • I trimmed the print once it was dry, and mounted it on a base of the same cream cardstock.

  • Final touches included a gold metallic greeting and some coordinating sequins. This kept the autumn warmth, but added a nice contrast of shine with the less refined print of the leaves.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Simon Says Stamp cream

  • ink: Simon Says Stamp Zest, Honey, Clay, Terracotta, Brick
