Shimmery & Bright

I have two more holiday cards from the Simon Says Stamp Sweet Wishes release. (See the whole release here.) The first is more modern with some shimmer and shine, the second is inspired by a classic Christmas Advent Wreath.

This card was a challenge to photograph well because it has a very shimmery background. Be sure to see the last photo below to get an idea of that effect. The flat photo above just doesn’t do it justice, though it does show the layout well.

Techniques:

  • The background was created by spraying lime green shimmer spray over the Positivity stencil. The lower part of the background is a piece of deep green cardstock, with a very thin layer (smear) of green Lunar Paste applied over it.

  • A mix of Juniper and Evergreen cardstock was used to die cut the pine needle branches.

  • White embossing on Dragonfruit cardstock makes the greeting stand out against all the bright color. It also ties in the white with the thin white border and the white linework in the stenciled background.

  • There’s an energy created with the green and pink combination, because they are complementary colors on the color wheel. (Loosely.)

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Dragonfruit, Evergreen, and Juniper.

  • ink: Concord & 9th Mushroom.

This card was inspired by the candle and greenery dies in the release - which together made me think of an advent wreath.

Techniques:

  • The background was embossed with an embossing folder. I blended coordinating blue ink in from the center outward, to create a deeper foundation for the wreath and candles.

  • I cut branches of greenery out of 3 shades of green cardstock. Layering the different colors together created more depth and interest. Even though the die cuts a single piece, I cut it apart to be able to vary the placement and length of the layers.

  • A swipe of gold Astro Paste on the candle flames using my finger tip added just a small touch of sparkle. Adding a sprinkling of black gems around the arrangement added to that detail even more.
