One Stamp Set, Three Ways to Use It

These cards highlight a holiday stamp set from the Simon Says Stamp DieCember® release. (See the whole release here.)

Techniques:

  • I love to make cards with something extra, to make them more engaging, and decided a focal point that shows on the front and inside would be fun. This is a type of pop-up technique that is flat on the front, but is hinged to remain visible and be popped up when the card opens. (I have to give credit to Jennifer McGuire for the technique, because I think that’s where I first saw it. You can see some of her cards and a video with it here. She calls it a pop-up or swivel card.)

  • There’s a subtle ink blended stencil pattern on the red circle for the greeting, which continues the kind of vintage mod theme. The offset black mat and addition of the black gems adds to the playful elements of the card.

  • Both the snowman/joy pattern and the greeting are embossed, so the touch of shine those have (combined with the black gems) contrasts nicely with the matte cardstock of the rest of the card.

Techniques:

  • This is a very simple way to dress up a bottle of wine for giving. Perfect for a hostess gift or something. I chose three of the ornament stamps that had a similar scale, and lined up the tops to fit along the fold.

  • Using two similar but not-quite-the-same embossing powders (Platinum & Silver, in this case) gives a subtle differentiation between the two parts, while keeping the design cohesive.

  • I cut a slight notch in the two sides of the tag at the fold line, and wrapped some festive twine around twice and tied it with a small bow. I backed the front of the tag with white, so there is space to write a note or sign it. Ready for gifting!
