Modern Colorblock Holiday
Featuring the September Kristina Werner release!
As often happens, this is not the card I planned on making. I started opening the products and picking cardstock colors and it went off in a different direction. That one will come later…
Techniques:
I used the outline die from the Gentle Berries Stem layering dies to deboss on the Poppy cardstock. I used slightly less pressure in my die cut machine (Platinum 6), and with the embossing mat rather than the lower cutting plate. This will vary by machine.
In order to cut only part of the line of trees, I positioned the die where I wanted it on the paper, but then made sure that the portion I didn’t want to cut hung over the edge of the bottom cutting plate. This let the die cut the first 7 trees (left to right) but not the others, so it fit the way I wanted it to on my card.
Once I prepared those two pieces, and figured out the layout I wanted, I stamped and embossed (in white) my greeting. I planned it to line up on the right side with the right edge of the green trees piece
Stamping the diagonal stripe in Versamark ink allows it to be a subtle pattern. It provides some interest and movement, but isn’t too busy.
To add to the flow of the card, I added three small trees in and around the Avocado tree block. I also added in three “berries” cut out of the White Glitter paper. In addition to adding to the flow, they also visually tie the d different colors together, by breaking beyond the block of each color and mingling with the others.
Colors:
The three colors of cardstock I used are bold and saturated colors, but all similar in value. This sets the stage for the white embossing and glitter paper dots to really stand out.
cardstock: Concord & 9th Poppy, Avocado, Peacock, White Glitter.
inks: Versamark
Kristina’s new release is out in a matter of hours! I’m a little behind my plans for working with this one, but I’ll have more coming. Have you gotten any of it yet?
Thank you for visiting! I hope you get some time to create something soon.
