All of the graduation cards I made this year were unique. No duplicates or multiples, like I have done some years, but we also didn’t need that many graduation cards this year, so it was easier to create cards unique for each graduate.

This one makes use of the You’re the Greatest die set from Concord & 9th.

Based on the school colors. Choosing the black to use as the foundation and the bright and warm orange on the trophy cup really lets that trophy cup be the focal point.

The Fold
Anytime a card isn’t a standard side fold card I think it adds a layer of interest. Of course, I do a lot of standard fold cards also, but something special like a graduation sometimes calls for something extra.

Glossy Embossing
Embossing through a stencil with clear on a solid color provides a nice variation in texture and sheen, but not color. It is a great way to add a background pattern without distracting from the focal point.

Dimension
I think the layers of cardstock always add a great layer of interest that set this apart from most store-bought cards. The fact that one side of the trophy cup hangs out over the background also adds to the dimension and interest.

Gift Presentation
Having the money (the gift) in a pocket I built within the top of the trophy cup, rather than just slipped inside the card of envelope. (The only drawback was that it was a Sunday and I forgot to plan in advance to get a newer crisp bill in the denomination I wanted… so I had to used what I had on hand to add up to the amount, and it was not quite as clean and neat as intended.)

Colors
Based on the school colors, as noted above.

Style
I kept this one styled in a way that this particular graduate might appreciate.

Special Touch
The embossed message I added inside was perfect for this grad, who plays multiple instruments, is part of a jazz quartet, and is planning to continue his jazz studies in college.
