Creating with a Sweet and “Pawsome” Pup
I just discovered that I have some cards that I haven’t shared yet from the Simon Says Stamp TO LOVE release! (See the whole release here.)
I’ll have more to share over the next week or two from this release, as well as the most current one. The themes overlap and mix together well.
Techniques:
Die cut layers really make me happy, and the majority of my cards all have layers of dimension. And lots of saturated color. This is a different style of stamp set than I typically purchase, and I always enjoy the challenge of doing something different. There are dies for this set (included in my product links below) but I didn’t have them, so that was also a factor in my challenge as I decided how to show off this sweet and cute set.
I wanted to let the sweet images show off, so I picked one of the critters, and wanted him to be the star of the card. (This sweet pup reminds me a bit of Simon, the namesake of Simon Say’s Stamp.
To create a bit of a scene with him, I looked at the other stamps in the set and chose this sweet envelope to use with him. I considered a row of them, but letting them kind of scatter down like confetti (in the form of sweet letters or cards) seemed fun and appropriately cute. They also added some dynamic energy and flow to the card design.
I didn’t want them to compete with the pup for focus, so I didn't stamp the envelopes in black, I chose a palette of some soft and light colors (though not completely pastels) and stamped the envelopes in those. To allow them to overlap, and create that look of depth with some in front of or behind others, I masked off envelopes after they were stamped so I could stamp the next ones overlapping. Bonus: Since they were mostly rectangular, I was able to do this easily with just bits of tape and didn’t have to cut specific masks.
Keeping the card simple, doesn’t mean totally plain. I wanted to bring in some interaction with the inside (because I love extra details like that) so I cut a circle in the front of the card and stamped an additional balloon on the inside that you can see through the opening.
I colored in the balloons using Copic colors that coordinate well with the ink colors I used on the envelopes.
Thank you for visiting! Stay tuned for more fun inspiration.
I hope you get some time to create something soon also!
