Birthday Topography

I was recently away on a crafty weekend with some friends and got to try out some new products from Simon Says Stamp’s Splendor release. This card combines a couple of those products.

I was very excited to see the new Topography background stamp from Simon Says Stamp. I’ve been looking for a stamp with this pattern for years.

This card is fairly simple in terms of techniques and supplies, but I wanted to highlight the topography pattern in different colors. I stamped with Versamark ink on 4 colors of cardstock for the tone-on-tone effect. Once I figured out my layout, my intention was to piece it together keeping the background pattern flowing, but I cut both of my gray cardstock colors too short and had to improvise. (I’d have stamped it again if I had the stamp, but I didn’t when I made the card.) I was able to find a section that continues the flow well enough, and that image and feel are really what matter more than perfection. I layered the colors and added scrap cardstock behind some so they are each on a different dimension - some subtle, some more pronounced.

The greeting is from the new CZ Birthday Basics stamp and die set. I embossed it in white for a layer of shine and brightness to contrast with the matte cardstock background.

The candles are stamped on the dark gray Mushroom cardstock in black, embossed with clear, and I trimmed them a bit shorter to fit the space well. For flames, I used the enamel seeds from Concord & 9th that I have. The colors weren’t quite right, so I used a Copic marker to color three of the tan colored seeds with orange. Again, that subtle shine of the embossing on the candles and the enamel seed flame are a nice contrast on the matte background.

Thank you for visiting! I hope you get some time to create something soon.
