Autumn Sunflower dies - Two Ways
The October release from Simon Says Stamp is now available! See the whole release here. I’ll be continuing to share more cards with it over the next couple of weeks.
This post focuses on the Sketched Leaves clear stamp set. There is also a coordinating die set available that will die cut the leaves and the sentiments.
Techniques:
This card features dimensional sunflowers with the new Autumn Sunflower wafer die set. I cut the parts out of a few colors and layered them together.
The dark background lets the flowers be the highlight and the detail in them really shows.
To add some background interest, I stamped the Sketched Leaves stamps on dark green cardstock. It adds some subtle detail, and the linear pattern of those leaves adds a nice contrast to the layers of solid brighter colors of the flower.
I used one of the new sentiment strips for the card, and added ink blending to it to coordinate with the flowers. I left the text on the strip black, because that color repetition ties in with the stamped leaves, and the black border visible on the left and right sides. (That wider left edge reminds me of a composition notebook, which is a subtle thematic nod to the autumn season.)
Colors:
cardstock: Concord & 9th Buttercup, Honeycomb, Clementine, Cayenne, and Rainforest. Hero Arts Black.
ink: Simon Says Stamp Butter and Clay. Versafine Onyx Black.
Techniques:
This is a really simple card combining the Autumn Sunflower from this Sweet Wishes release with elements from the Rustic Layering Flower die set from the September release.
The new sunflower die is very close in shape and style to the layering flowers. By using just one of the petal layers for the sunflower, the shape similarities are more apparent.
By choosing to do only the sunflower petals in yellow, it helps it stand out among the pattern created by the other flowers.
Colors:
There’s a hierarchy of colors used here - from the single yellow element that stands out, to the triad of Cayenne blooms (and the thanks sentiment), to the Spiced Cider that fills it in, and is also more of a similar value to the neutral background.
cardstock: Concord & 9th Buttercup, Spiced Cider, Cayenne, Nutmeg, Dove.
ink: Simon Says Stamp Clay, Terracotta and Brick.
Thank you for visiting! Keep an eye out for more inspiration from the Sweet Wishes release!
